Sorry I’ve been gone on vacation for the last ten days or so and didn’t post anything. I had to get out of town for a sister-in-law’s wedding, then stick around in Utah for Thanksgiving. It was an awesome trip, but it’s nice to be back home in NYC. Micah, please don’t give me detention for my missed assignments…
A tradition that I really like in my wife’s family, is the gift exchange for Christmas. For the last couple of years, we’ve done a self-made twist to all gifts. Whatever you do has to be made by you. For instance, last year I got a tin foil ball, a stick, and a pair of home made glasses. They were all meant to be pieces of Harry Potter lore, as I am a huge fan. So we had a metallic snitch, a wand, and HP’s glasses. The execution of the gift was total rubbish, but it was really funny and we had a great time with it. And yes, I looked like a complete moron with the glasses on.
With everyone around for the wedding, we did the exchange at Thanksgiving. I created a poster for my sister-in-law of a favorite quote of mine that reminded me of her. Nothing super extreme. But something nice that she could hang in her home. I had the same sister last year, and silkscreened some onesies for their yet unborn child. It’s a fun exercise to mess about with and do something on a tiny scale.

This looks nice. It’s not every day that you see really scripty fonts on bright orange. Plays nicely to “be silly.” Did you do the type yourself or is it taken from an existing font?
It’s an existing script font called Parfait Script. It has amazing glyphs. I would have taken the time to do some custom swashes, but there was no time. Orange is her favorite color, which I love.
