Sorry for a couple of eleventh hour posts in a row. It is ironic that almost all of my time is spent on personal projects now, but I still scramble to put something together to share with y’all every week. Anyway, I have recently been working on the Loser Game logo and how to implement it onto the back of the playing cards. Here are some directions that I like. I think I have a favorite, but would be interested in hearing what you think.

I’m also pretty excited about the poster that will come with the game and/or be used as a promotional item. It will be pretty big, at 23″x23″ and double sided. I have most of side one done. The other side will also use a lot of colorful patterns from the face cards and maybe a character or two. The real reason that the poster is so cool, though, is that you can fold it up into an origami crown for the loser to wear during the game. The pictures are of a tiny mockup I printed out. The white parts are because it is missing side 2 still. I think it’s coming along nicely.

The origami crown is hilarious! What a great touch. Everything is coming along really nicely and the secondary elements and patterns are beautiful.
For the back of the card, I think the plain L on the green/teal background works best for me. I don’t think you need to state the entire name of the game on the back of the cards, especially if it’s already on the outer box/carton. I really like the introduction of the hand loser “L” which would be hilarious to see someone with that on their hat when they lose.
One small detail about the Loser lockup. I really like the shapes of the letterforms, but the L due to its size just feels really really heavy. I understand that the L is much larger, but could the “oser” get a bit more weight to it to help those characters feel more unified in presence? I don’t know for sure, but my assumption would be that those letters were just scaled down from the larger size to keep proportions, etc.
First of all, this is coming together really nice.
I agree that the best back is the Capital “L” and for the same reasons Stephen stated.
I think that rather than make the “oser” heavier I’d make the “L” fall in line with the “oser”, make it the same size and design. That way the Capital “L” is reserved for solo applications, there’s enough of a stylistic tie-in that there’s no need for them to hang out together.
I know that there are people that like big capitals intermixed with small type, ya know like “drop caps”, but I’m not one of them so take this advice with a grain of salt because I know that it’s my personal bias.
Oh, and the hat is a great idea. It makes it very ownable.
Thanks guys. Your opinions are are very helpful and appreciated.
I’m also thinking of making a special card that just has the hand on both sides that would attach to your head with a band or something for those who don’t have or don’t like the hat. Or wimps could just put it on the table in front of the loser.
I think we need to have a Coop gathering and learn to play the Loser game. I’m really excited to see this come to life!
