So it all began with me wanting to create an “avatar” image of myself for the various social media platforms I’m on as well as my own website (johnwjensen.com). So I created this one:
And then I thought,”Hey that was easy and fun, I bet I could do all kinds of emotions and use them interchangeably!” So, I created some variations (click to enlarge):
And then soon enough I had lost myself in finding myself through many pop culture iterations. Credit to my wife for coming up with the “Wooly Willy” idea. (click to enlarge)

This is totally something I could see myself doing as a “Portrait-a-day” for a year and then putting together a book of all 365 portraits. And then I could totally sell it… to my grandma. Also I could see myself getting really bored with this after a couple months.
Please, if you have any good ideas for portraits then let me know!
I saved the best for last. Portraits of my beautiful new family, perfect for the mantle… if we had one anymore. Make sure to enlarge to see the fun icon details!

Okay, that was ridiculous! I love the characters, though John Fünke is by far my favorite, followed closely by He Who Must Not Be John. Really hilarious stuff man. Great execution and brilliant idea. I think you should totally expand this. I think more than just your Grandma would buy a copy of the book. Maybe your neighbors?…
Additional Suggestions:
The Dude (or other Big Lebowski character)
Kiss
Werewolf, Frankenstein, Mummy (Halloween John)
The John (port-o-potie humor, I’m sure you’ve heard way to much in your life)
John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever (need to have one real John named guy)
Lil’ John
Is there a really big overweight John?…

Beetlejuice
Batman
Sherlock Holmes
Planter Peanuts (anyone with a monocle is cool)
Evil Kinevil
Lebron (LeJohn) you could have his signature headband + afro
Sly Stone
Muppet?
I could keep going…
Actually had you ever heard of dude a day? It was an illustrator who would draw a dude a day, and then compiled later. I couldn’t find the site (had a forbidden on this server page that popped up), but you can find some examples of the illustrations around on the interwebs. But he would get into themes to help him get through the different days; star wars, the avengers, etc.
Here’s one link that I found that shows some of the images:

Nice! The Blue Man/Tobias is awesome. You probably saw this already: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tomtrager/6226193331/
I love the different character adaptations, John of the Dead being one of my personal favorites. As for Carrie, the color contrast between the circles below her eyes and the rest of her face is looking a little like a 5 o’clock shadow to me… Could there be less color contrast perhaps?
Ha! I actually hadn’t seen that. I even have the same title to my post. Thanks for sharing.
Good point on Carrie. I’ve actually played around with that because I thought that may be the perception. I’ll work on it more. Thanks for the feedback!
I must admit that I immediately thought the same thing about Carrie’s Character.
I like the little icons on the family portraits – great detail. I’m curious, what does Carrie’s icon indicate? Florist? Stylist? Super Awesome Mom?
Nothing specific, just a nice feminine touch. And, yes, she is a super awesome mom!
This is hilarious. It kind of makes me wish that I was bald and bearded.
Yeah, it’s a rare honor bestowed on only the greatest of us… er something.
Ground control to Major John is my favorite. This is brilliant.
Killer stuff. Love it.
Ditto all the comments. Pure awesomeness!
