Nielsen, the company that measures consumer media, is hosting an infographic competition using their data about social media, mobile usage, and video/TV usage. The goal is to create an infographic using the most interesting sets of data.
Here is an example of one of the data sets:

There is just so much data that it is hard to wrap ones head around it all. I did this card-sorting activity to categorize the various types of data. Each sticky represents one data set.
I am still not sure which to emphasize—mobile data usage, social media, or video. I just started to put a few graphs together in illustrator. My hope is that the story will emerge as I plod through creating the graphics.

The final entries will be judged as follows: Storytelling (25%), Data Insight/Analysis (25%), Creativity and Aesthetics (25 %), and Accuracy of data usage (25%). The entry deadline is this thursday and the prizes for the winner are pretty cool. Check out the prizes here.
I know I don’t have a lot down yet, but any conceptual contributions would really help. I am tempted to break the designer co-op rules and sneak in a post on tuesday so that I can get more feedback before the deadline. Wish me luck.

Neat. And wow, that’s a lot of potential data to include.
How large can the infographic be? I’d love to see, like the “thirty seven” a few more “large” callouts that maybe shock me, or grab my attention to take a closer look. Excited to see the final product.
