This poem is one of my sister’s favorites. The Untold Want by Walt Whitman.
“The untold want, by life and land we’re granted,
Now Voyager, sail thou forth, to seek and find.”
The 1942 Movie, Now, Voyager is excellent as well. (Although, this poster is not meant to partner the film.)
My sister said it felt like a circus poster. (Gasp!) I tweaked several things but it never felt that way to me. It definitely feels nautical. Yes?

Anna, overall I think the poster is a really great idea, and love the idea of the big type becoming part of the ship in a way.
I can’t put my finger on it, and I don’t fully agree with your sister, but it doesn’t feel as nautical to me as you’re going for. I don’t know if it’s the sleek and modern sans serifs, or the style of some of the dingbats. I really like the motifs of the rope and the sails and the flag, but some of the elements don’t seem to play into the concept as well. Also the bottom shape, is that meant to be the hull of the ship? (Is that what the bottom is called? This shows my nautical knowledge… so take my comments as you will)
I don’t know if you were going for a hull with the bottom of the graphic, but I have to agree with Stephen. You could try just adding a keel to the very bottom, and it might help with recognition. I really love all the detail. You might want to submit this to our friend Keenan for the Wander postcards.
Great input. I have some vintage influences here that I started with, and really liked…but I supposed that liking blinded me. So, they are in fact…confusing. It’s good to have fresh eyes! I’ll rework.
