Note: Please don’t compare me to Anna. Thanks.
I really don’t think I am very good at doing wedding invites, but since my wife’s family has 11 kids and she was the first married I find myself doing at least one per year. This year is a bumper crop, however, so this is the no.2 of 4 that I will get to work on before the summer is over. The couple gave me the quote, “Oh opener of all doors. Open for us the best door” to work from. It seemed fitting to play off the beautiful doors of the SLC temple, where they were married.

Also, the pattern is based on the Jerusalem Cross. They both have a connection to the Middle East area, but didn’t want to be overt. I like little details like this in wedding invitations. If you know the story behind the design then it means a lot, if you don’t then it is just a nice element.
This is nice! And I do like the pattern.
Pulling in subtle little details like this give these kinds of projects some fun and interesting depth that you just can’t get from something “off the shelf”. Plus it certainly makes them a lot of fun to work on. I hope you ARE having fun considering you get to do FOUR announcements this summer! Lucky you.
I can’t tell from the photo, were you able to letterpress these?
Unfortunately there was not the budget to letterpress them. Instead we went with something the printer called ‘foamography,’ though that’s probably just a made up term for something else. Basically they print special ink and then run it under a heater, which causes the ink to raise up (like foam). This creates more texture than normal off-set printing and is a nice alternative than more expensive processes.
