You may remember this little portrait project I did a while back. Well, I’ve made some modifications to the artwork and have now found a great application for it in my house. Currently I’ve placed it above the mantle as you can see below (click to enlarge).
So these are the family portraits that will be up most of the year. However, during holidays I thought it would be fun to switch out the artwork for versions that are specific to the holiday. For example, during halloween we’d each be wearing halloween costumes and during christmas time we’d be wearing santa hats and/or elf costumes. Seeing that Halloween is the next upcoming holiday I’ve begun working on retrofitting the artwork with halloween designs. Fortunately I’ve already done a zombie version of myself, although I’ve had to totally rework it with the new artwork (click to enlarge).
I definitely want to do an orange background but I’m not sure If I should use a monochromatic color scheme, like the current portraits, or go full color. I’m starting to lean toward full color. What do you think?
I love this. Very interesting idea of switching it up for the holidays. I think I like the full-color zombie best though.
For the one-off holiday portraits, break the convention of the standard. I like that the normal ones are monochromatic, but since it’s for a holiday go crazy. Do them full color. It would also help if the costumes and/or theme dictate the color and not the holiday.

This is such a fantastic idea, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw other people trying this out. (Admittedly you and Micah have both got me thinking about doing a family portrait too.)
