I’ve been wanting to try food photography for a while. So I’ve been playing around the past few weeks. It’s hard! Right now, the photos feel generic and the propping unimaginative, but with practice….
I’ll probably sell some images as stock but I do plan to eventually design a cookbook and give away as a personalized Christmas gift.

I don’t know what your talking about. These are beautiful. I especially like the last one. It has some nice personality.
What camera/lens are you using for theses? And, what is your lighting source like?
Can we sign up for a cookbook? I’ve been toying with this idea as well for a long time with family recipes. Something I’ve got to get around to doing before my parents can’t remember stuff any longer…
So far the images are great. The only one that doesn’t work as well for me is the one with the spoon. I like the little basil leaves, but the shape of the pesto is a little wonky.
Thanks for the encouragement and feedback guys—it’s a whole ‘nother world behind the lens. Now that wonky pesto is going to bug me forever, Command Z, Command Z!!!
Of course you can sign up for a cookbook! In fact, we can do a trade…your family recipes for mine.
Camera and lens consumer level: Canon Rebel T1i, Kit Lens EF-S 18-55mm.
Lighting source (except for the pesto which was outside in shade): south facing window and a reflector on the opposite side.
I’m totally up for swapping books when we’re all done.
Don’t hate on Mt Pesto
Yeah these are really nice, you’ve even got a consistent brown/green color palette going on. Of course for the recipe book you’ll probably break from that, as you should.
Very cool.
