So, today was a very interesting day. It started at 9:12 when I received an email saying that someone named Sauce commented on John’s excellent foiling tutorial. Apparently they stumbled upon a pinterest pin and followed it to us. “Cool.” thought I. Shortly after I got another email saying that our facebook page received another like. “Super cool!” thought I.
Fast forward to the end of the day. 30 new people have liked the facebook page (welcome, welcome) and 4 more people commented on the post. Not bad at all. Then, when midnight struck (yes, I am writing this from the future) I raced over to google analytics to figure out what in the world happened and saw this (click on the image to see it larger):

Yep, that says 5,972 page views! The spike was so drastic that it looks like nobody ever came before today (we were averaging about 50-100 daily, in case you were wondering). So crazy.
And to make the story even better, sometime in the middle of all this I got to thinking about the beginning of the Designer Co-op. I searched all the way back to the first, somewhat pathetic post and realized something. I started this amazing experiment on August 24th, 2011.
Happy, Amazing Birthday to us all!
I’m one of your new visitors! Love the technique and your blog is amazing
I re-pinned your site on my pinterest account too, so I hope you get even more followers.
Thanks!
Dana
Thanks so much Dana. I completely agree. All the Co-op members are incredible and I am always amazed by the work that they do and share with the rest of us. I hope you enjoy following us, and please don’t hesitate to comment on anything or let us know what we can do better regarding the site.
I found you via your fab foiling tutorial, too! So glad I found you! Thanks for sharing, Nix
I’m glad you found us Nix. I hope you get as much fun out of this site as I do.
Glad to be one of those views. Such a great find! I’m guessing you can thank that foil tutorial I think I found it through Pinterest or Facebook.
Micah, maybe we should reconsider the Pinterest angle again. Or have some options for what can or cannot be posted, since a few of us were concerned about unfinished work being viewed/pinned in place of finished pieces.
Really cool!
Also, is there a way for our names on the right side of navigation to point to our personal sites? That way newcomers could find out more if desired.
Brilliant design blog! Found it on pinterest too. Was just looking for that foil technique I learned and left it behind in school 10 years ago, just as it’s needed. Love the idea of the co-op posting. Love the work posted. To all that have contributed, keep it up guys! May there never be a dull moment~!
Thanks for the kind words Christian. It’s very encouraging to know that other people are getting enjoyment out of work as well.
Micah, I am yet another who found your blog and Facebook page through John’s foiling tutorial, and I am another artist as well. I think it takes amazing techniques like that, shared by other artists to make a post go viral. Who wouldn’t want to be able to add foil to a piece of artwork, a business sign, a birthday card, or whatever! I love it when artists share techniques, or other “valuable” information with the world. Why are we so secretive?
The only thing I couldn’t find on your site was information about the artists. I would love to know what John works with, what Studio 2 1/2 is… maybe you can add information about the artists who are posting, like an ‘About the Artist’ link, with a link to their personal sites inside as Stephen so wisely suggested..?
Hey Tara, thanks for your comment. I totally agree that John’s post is excellent. We are lucky to have him as a member. I’m sure that we all have nice, secret gems of wisdom, though I think the problem is less about not wanting to share and more about just not thinking about it or not wanting to take the time to put together a well crafted tutorial. This has been a good lesson to us, though, and I hope that you will be seeing more such posts from the co-op. If you have any specific requests, don’t hesitate to ask.
And yeah, this site really needs info about the members. I promise that it will be a very important part of the redesign. Please keep bugging me to push that project so we can have it up and running as soon as possible.
