I’m hoping to start a short series of posts about the transformation process of us turning our new house into our new home. First off is what has become my studio, formerly a guest bedroom as shown below before we moved in. (Click to enlarge photos).

I was watching a lot of Mad Men when I had the idea but I just fell in love with the type on the doors of the office. So I had the lettering custom made by an online shop I found, it only cost like $25.
The beige and burnt orange paint colors were all throughout the house so that was the first and biggest project. The studio gets a unique color of a very dark cool grey. I think it’s perfect for it and it makes all the metal really pop against it. (Click to enlarge)
Most of what I did was painting but I also installed some track lighting, my metal wall, and of course added all my furniture.
Finally, I think the chair looks quite good in it’s new home.

I love those old Dutch colonials. The studio looks really great. The house has so much natural warmth with the wood floors and awesome built-ins that the cool grey is a nice contrast (without making the room look cold or sterile). Nice work. Can’t wait to see more.
loving this. One day I’ll live in a place where I can have a home studio….but it won’t be in NY.
So, even the before shot looks way nicer than any room in my apartment. Sigh.
I look forward to everything that will be created there.
Lust.
Hey John- what/how did you do the metal wall?
