Bokeh

Right now I'm on a bokeh craze. I tried a technique that worked so splendidly on jazzing up an image of a couple dancing under a chandelier, that I went on to make a Save the Date card using the techinque—but as more of an illustrative look. I think the concept works as it is ...

Solve Anything

This is the first font I've created completely from scratch. There are things I really like about the letters and some troublesome areas— for instance, I'm not sure the descender is working on the A of creativity. Also, I don't think the corner embellishments are right...but I've seriously had to walk away from this for a ...

Zomcon

My husband wanted a a themed birthday party this year—and since we've been watching a lot of Walking Dead around here—guess what he picked? And of course it had to be a costume party. We sent out video invitations as if they were coming from the last safe-house on the planet. "Doctor Zenk was researching the ...

Ugly Rocker

After a quick midnight rescue from the neighbor's curb, in the daylight I'm not sure how to feel about this rocker. Certainly it's unique, has some serious lumbar support, and is comfortable. But I can't decided if I think it's cool...or just UGLY. Before deciding to keep it, I started playing around with some visuals today—just ...

Family Recipes

I've been wanting to try food photography for a while. So I've been playing around the past few weeks. It's hard! Right now, the photos feel generic and the propping unimaginative, but with practice.... I'll probably sell some images as stock but I do plan to eventually design a cookbook and give away as a personalized Christmas ...

Liquid Ink

Continuing on with my postcard project, here are a couple ready to use cards. This got me off the computer and playing around with water and liquid calligraphy ink, which I then scanned as a black and white image and digitally colorized. The texture is subtle, but I like it, and used it in both designs.

ABC

I mentioned a while ago that I was going to order this book, in hopes it would actually teach me how to design type. (Instead of only talking about personality of type like so many other disappointing purchases I have made.) I opened it and my jaw dropped. FINALLY, a comprehensive book that actually shows ...

A Bit Vintage

I'm working on a series of customizable Thank You postcards. So far these are getting a good response and I'm sure will gather more "hits" as the collection gets bigger. Plus, I'm enjoying these little, no pressure projects.

Squished No More

It's been a holiday week, so there's nothing new or groundbreaking to share but I did work on that squished "S" you all pointed out—which was excellent feedback. The new letter makes a big difference, so thanks everyone!

Quick Conté

Yesterday I quickly threw a thank you postcard together. Wanting the chalk look, I dug out one of my neglected Conté pencils and started drawing on black paper. The effect works nicely—although the design does not knock my socks off—I like it well enough to print a batch. If anything maybe it'll give you some ...
